An update on the Catton Park proposal from Ken Leggett

The Catton Park Trust bid was submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund

in April 2004.  This was approved in principle October 2004 with a Stage 1

Development grant to  prepare a detailed and costed 10 year Business and

Management Plan.  Consultants were appointed in November 2004 and they

have completed arboriculture and topographical surveys – their reports are

expected at the end of February 2005.

A topographical plan draws contour lines on a map and plots levels for re-seeding

and paths, buildings, structures, some strategic trees, entrances, boundaries etc.

Arboriculture identifies significant individual trees 30cm (1ft) in diameter and

significant groups of trees by variety by tagging and blue spotting; the idea being

to review the balance of individual and groups of trees.  Then recommendations

are made for tree management, thinning of some self sown trees and suggested

new plantings.

The Catton park Trust's plan is to submit a detailed and fully costed application

to the Heritage Lottery Fund in May 2005 and the hope is to get a decision from

the HLF in September 2005.
