Launch of a permanent Orienteering Course in Catton Park

On a dull but dry Saturday afternoon on October 17th 2009 about 50 ‘enthusiasts’ gathered at 14.30 hours for the launch of the Catton Park Trust Orienteering Course.

The interest and support of Active Norfolk who grant aided 50% of the cost of the posts and installation was very much appreciated.  Equally the time and effort of Alan Bedder and Michael George was greatly valued.  They also encouraged 12 of the Norfolk Orienteering Club Members to attend and demonstrate a professional briefing and ‘Start Off’.

Alan and Michael explained to the ‘beginners’ the basic idea and how to proceed.  They had prepared alternative programme cards for the ‘energetic’ and ‘less energetic’ groups which would be setting out on the competitive 45 minute exercise – (10 points would be deducted for each minute taken over the 45 minute target period!).  The results of all the participants were recorded on the Norfolk Orienteering Club website (www.norfolkoc.co.uk).

Many thanks to Alan and Michael and to the Friends of Catton Park who kindly organised the very welcome tea, coffee and scones with jam refreshments which were in great demand at the end of the session.

An enjoyable afternoon of active, challenging and exciting fun – come and have a go!
